The Center for Excellence in Disabilities (CED) and the Human Resource Development Foundation, Inc. (HRDF) have partnered to create and deliver services to improve employment outcomes for West Virginia youth ages 16 – 25 who receive SSI or SSDI benefits on the basis of their disability.

female youth working in a radio stationWV Youth Works was selected by the Social Security Administration as one of its national Youth Transition Demonstration (YTD) projects.

WV Youth Works will provide a variety of transition - related services to over 400 youth with disabilities residing in eighteen counties in West Virginia over a four - year period.

male youth working at a computerWV Youth Works uses a person-centered planning approach to deliver customized services and supports to youth with disabilities. Specific services include paid and unpaid work experiences, benefits counseling, career and transition planning and case management.

WV Youth Works is developing services that demonstrate how communities can integrate services and resources to achieve positive results for youth with disabilities.

female youth in wheelchairYouth participating in the project will be followed for at least a four - year period after they are approved to receive services by the Social Security Administration. A variety of data sources, surveys of youth and interviews with project staff will determine whether interventions led youth to increased earnings or increased enrollment in post secondary education.
