Eight Mini-Grant Applications Receive Fudning
The mini-grant opportunities offered by Taking Charge received a great response from across West Virginia. Many great ideas were submitted to spread the program throughout the state while bringing communities and service providers together. Funded projects are listed below.
- Harrison County, ‘We Can’ Project. Looking to get in shape? This six week program brings residents of Harrison County together to get fit through a program similar to TV’s reality show, The Biggest Loser. Contact James Harris at Health Access for more information at 304-622-2708.
- Cabell, Kanawha, Wayne & Lincoln Counties, “Taking Charge”. Valley Health is offering the Taking Charge program to all patients who are seniors at any of their 23 medical offices. For more information, contact Linda Grey at 304-525-3334.
- Cabell County, ‘Taking Charge Road Show’. Look out for CEOS members traveling the county showcasing Taking Charge. To find out where and when CEOS members will be, contact Brenda Porter at 304-743-7131.
- Mercer County, ‘Connecting Communities’. South Central Educational Development is partnering with faith-based and community organizations in Mercer County to provide Taking Charge workshops and promote senior safety. Whether you are an interested organization or want to attend a Taking Charge event, call Darryl Cannady at 304-325-6105.
- Greenbrier County, “Managing Your Meds”. Ever wonder how your meds work, why you are taking them or what exactly the pill bottle directions mean? Greenbrier County Committee on Aging is offering presentations that will answer these questions. You can also learn other health tips on self-care. For information, call Cinda Kinsey at 304-392-5138.
- Jackson County, ‘Taking Charge’. Take the walking challenge at Ravenswood Senior Center. This challenge includes weekly group walks, healthy eating tips and information on health and safety topics. Call Chris Poe at 304-273-5648 to take on the challenge.
- Jefferson County, ‘Taking Charge Training Workshop’. The Eastern Panhandle Health Ministry Network is expanding Taking Charge in Jefferson County. If you are interested in Taking Charge coming to your church, civic organization or community organization, contact Sarah Soltow at 304-582-4264.
- Hardy County, ‘N.E.W. II’. Take charge of your health and learn more about self-care at Hardy County’s Health & Wellness Center. Hardy County Committee on Aging will offer Taking Charge information and daily tips through monthly cooking classes, wellness seminars and recreational activities such as exercise groups and bowling.
