M-WIN (Medicaid Work Incentive Network)
The CED provides technical assistance for M-WIN in the form of information and referral, training to service providers and consumer groups, and public awareness activities. This assistance is provided through Gateways: West Virginia’s Comprehensive Employment Systems program.
M-WIN is affordable health insurance for working West Virginians with a disability.
It is a Medicaid funded work incentive program that allows working West Virginians with disabilities, or chronic health conditions, to pay a monthly premium to keep or obtain Medicaid healthcare coverage.
M-WIN eliminates a major barrier to employment – losing current healthcare benefits when you return to work. It is also an incentive for individuals to obtain employment and earn healthcare coverage.
You may be eligible for M-WIN if:
- Employment: You work at a job at or above minimum wage.
- Disability: You have a disability or chronic health condition that meets the Social Security Administration’s standards (SSI or SSDI) or state guidelines as determined by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR).
- Assets/Resources: Your assets are counted but do not include your house and car.
- Income: Your unearned income (like SSDI) can be no greater than $657 per month for 2008. This amount increases yearly.
- Age: You are a West Virginia resident between the ages of 16 and 64.
M-WIN applications are taken weekdays at each DHHR office. Your local DHHR worker will determine your eligibility and premium rate. To locate your county office, call the DHHR Office of Client Services at 800-642-8589 or visit the DHHR website at www.wvdhhr.org.
