Chafee Program Additional Activities
These additional activities are available to youths currently in foster care age 14 - 20 and to youths formerly in foster care age 18 - 20.
- Youth Council - The Youth Council is a panel of youth in foster care. The council offers youths the chance to become involved in issues affecting their lives. The three officer positions: president, vice-president, and secretary are elected from the membership.
- Annual Conference - A 4-day event which allows youth in foster care to network with peers and attend workshops that are focused on education, employability, and family life development topics.
- Regional Seminars - A minimum of 12 Life Skills Seminars are conducted yearly throughout West Virginia to assist youth in achieving independence.
- The Newsletter - The Hope Times allows youth the opportunity to share information, experiences and concerns, with not only other youths, but also with program staff, state - level management and policy makers. The newsletter is edited by the Transitional Living Youth Council Members.
