- The Specialized Family Care Program, was featured on “Access for All: Supports and Services in Your Community,” the Center’s TV show that is aired on the West Virginia Library Commission Network and throughout the state. The Positive Behavior Support/Crisis Projects will be featured in December.

- The 2008 Real Opportunities Make People Productive (ROMP) art exhibit opened on November 26, 2007 at the West Virginia Cultural Center in Charleston, West Virginia. A reception sponsored by West Virginia Culture and History was held on November 25th.The exhibit will be open November 20 - December 26, 2007. - Pat Nisbet, Program Manager for West Virginia Specialized Family Care (SFC) program, gave a presentation about her program to the Legislative Oversight Commission for Health and Human Resources Accountability (LOCHHRA) during the November Legislative Interim.
- Janice Holland, Associate Director, and Larry Searcy, Disability Program Navigator, presented “Increasing Employment and Self-Sufficiency for Individuals with Disabilities,” at the 2007 AUCD Annual Meeting and Conference in Washington, DC. Jamie Hayhurst-Marshall, WVATS Assistive Technology Coordinator, and Regina Mayolo, WVATS Technical Assistance Specialist, presented posters at the conference.
- Stacy Miller, Information Specialist for West Virginia AgrAbility, exhibited and gave a presentation at the National AgrAbility Workshop in Sacramento, California November 1, 2007, about the 'Rural Rehabilitation: Agricultural Assessment and Accommodation' Training held in WestVirginia in May 2007. In addition, AgrAbility client, Clay Rankin, of Gilmer county, attended the conference on a farmer scholarship.
- Three WVU Physical Therapy students developed a curriculum for West Virginia AgrAbility focusing on hand injury prevention. The curriculum, which contains a presentation “Common Overuse Injuries of the Hand-Wrist in Farmers,” is for delivery to health care providers. The presentation covers Tenosynovitis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome, including symptoms as well as tools to help prevent or reduce the impact of these conditions. If you know of a physical therapy clinic or rural primary care clinic that may be interested in hosting an in-service training on this topic, e-mail agrability@hsc.wvu.edu.
- Disability Program Navigators provided information and organized events in their regions for National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The events targeted youth with disabilities and provided a forum for youth to explore the WORKFORCE West Virginia centers. Local high schools transported youth to the centers where they registered for work, participated in seminars on employability skills, toured the center and learned about services and programs available, including assistive technology. Presentations about disability etiquette, IDEA Transition Requirements, person centered planning, and the Inclusion Team.
- Jack Stewart, CED Assistant Director, participated in a press conference with the Governor’s office and West Virginia University President, Mike Garrison, announcing the award of a $3.8 million contract to the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) through a company called Mathematica and operated by the Human Resources Development Foundation (HRDF) in Morgantown to provide service to young people on Social Security Income. CED assisted HRDF in the pilot phase and will participate in the future.
- WVATS is providing trainings to the Rape and Domestic Violence Information Centers around the state, training staff on basic disability awareness, etiquette, video relay, interpreter services and assistive technology. In November, WVATS trained staff in Kanawha, Mingo, Greenbrier, Ohio, Hancock, Cabell, Mingo, Mineral counties and will train in Marion and Monongalia counties in December. To date, WVATS has completed eight of 14 trainings.
