- CED staff members presented at the 2008 Spring Continuing Education Conference for Social Workers:
- “Writing Successful Plans to Achieve Self-Support, An SSI Work Incentive” - Renee Reedy
- “Understanding Social Security Work Incentives”- Jennifer Tenney
- "Teaching Families and Staff to Support People with Developmental Disabilities” - Carol Newlon
- CED Outreach Training Coordinator, Helen Panzironi, facilitated several strategic planning sessions in April and May. Participants included Compeer of WV, Fayette County Partners for Recovery, the Better Brain Injury Care Coalition and individual artists.
- CED Fine Arts provided support for the VSA Arts Day in Monongalia County on May 7th and on May 22nd in Parkersburg. These events were attended by hundreds of school aged participants, their teachers and friends.
- CED Outreach Training Coordinator, Helen Panzironi, in cooperation with the Foundation for Rape Information and Services, conducted focus group discussions on sexual assault and women with disabilities on May 15th at the Fairmont Department of Health and Human Resources office.
- Gary Gordorov, one of the writers in the Fine Arts program, will be published in the spring issue of “Social Advocacy Systems” out of Courtland, New York. The publication showed interest after seeing one of Gordorov’s poems in the CED’s Developments newsletter. Two poems, “The Man With A Dark Face” and “I’m In The Shadow” will be highlighted.
- Jennifer Tenney, WIPA Program Manager, presented a Work Incentive Seminar Event (WISE) at the WorkForce WV in Huntington on April 29, 2008. Jennifer also presented “SSI and You,” “Family Support: Working Together with Service Coordination,” and “Title XIX MR/DD Waiver,” at the Community Information Conference in Morgantown on May 14, 2008. The CED, WVATS and Parent Network Specialist programs also exhibited at the conference.
- Children with Special Health Care Needs Nutrition Clinics will be held by Monica Andis, Program Manager, Nutrition & Dietary Services, on:
- May 5-6, 2008 - Beckley, West Virginia
- Monica Andis, Program Manager for Nutrition & Dietary Services gave a nutrition presentation on "Preserving Bone Health in Senior Citizens", at the Heritage Point Retirement Village in Morgantown, West Virginia on May 22, 2008.
- The CED welcomes Ashley Tasker, a new benefits counselor for the Youth Transition Demonstration project in partnership with HRDF in Morgantown. Ashley completed her bachelor’s degree in forensic psychology at Fairmont State University and received her master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from WVU in May. She has worked as a Case Manager/Counselor for a psychiatric rehabilitation center in Maryland and as an addiction therapist. Ashley is the current president of the WV Rehabilitation Association. She is in the Morgantown office, room 207. Ashley's extension is 1136 and her e-mail address is atasker@hsc.wvu.edu.
- Positive Behavior Support staff provided three part trainings on “Building Maintenance and Teaching Alternatives Skills,” “Designing Positive Behavior Support Interventions,” and “Completing Functional Behavior Assessments” in April and May to Waiver providers in Beckley, Charleston, Morgantown and Parkersburg. Other Positive Behavior Support trainings included:

- April 29, 2008 “Client Rights and People First Language” at the REM in Keyser, West Virginia - Kathy Torsney
- May 9, 2008 “Time Management and Team Building” at the Ramada Inn in Morgantown, West Virginia - Kathy Torsney

- WVATS collaborated with the WV Coalition Against Domestic Violence to provide Assistive Technology trainings at each of the 14 regional Rape and Domestic Violence Information Centers (RDVIC) around the state and the Coalitions main office. WVATS will complete its RDVIC trainings in June.
