- WVATS provided a demonstration to the Korea Employment Promotion Agency for the Disabled Assistive Technology Center on August 8 in the WVATS lab in Morgantown. The Korean agency was visiting the United States to attend the national Job Accommodation Network conference. The group selected WVATS for a visit after doing a web search on assistive technology and being impressed with WVATS services and publications. WVATS looks forward to continued interactions with this international group.

- This month, CED Specialty Clinics will be featured on "Access for All: Supports and Services in Your Community," the Center’s TV show that is aired on the West Virginia Library Commission Network and throughout the state.
- Brandy Kennedy, an occupational therapy student and current MCH/LEND trainee presented ’Undetected Vision Problems in Children with Disabilities’ on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at the Center for Excellence in Disabilities in Morgantown.
- West Virginia AgrAbility Information Specialist, Stacy Miller, exhibited at the West Virginia State Fair in Lewisburg, demonstrating assistive and ergonomic tools, as well as a portable raised garden. The exhibit also included a wide variety of printed resources on gardening and farming with arthritis, AgrAbility tools available from the WVATS loan library, equipment modifications, safe livestock handling aides and much more.
- WVATS partnered with several local and state organizations on the 2007 Senior Classic, West Virginia’s Senior Olympic competition. The event, traditionally held in Charleston, was held this year in Morgantown on August 9-11. As a member of the planning committee, WVATS provided technical assistance on accessibility issues and helped recruit volunteers and participants.
- WVATS was selected to present, "Access to the Curriculum: Integrating Assistive Technology into the Classroom" at the 2007 West Virginia Statewide Technology Conference, "A Technical Convergence," held on August 13 – 17 at the Charleston Civic Center. This conference served participants from higher education, K-12, state agencies, the business community and the nonprofit sector. The goal of the conference is to foster partnerships among the groups by exchanging the latest technology advances and uses and sharing individual expertise with a broader audience.
- WVATS is hosting a Cambium Learning Technologies demonstration at the CED in Morgantown on August 23, 2007 at 11:00 am. Cambium products and strategies for teachers and practitioners using IntelliTools Classroom Suite and Kurzweil 3000 will be demonstrated. - HumanWare and the WVATS will offer a day long assistive technology workshop for teachers of the visually impaired and blind on August 28th at the Center for Excellence in Disabilities in Morgantown. The session will demonstrate BrailleNote, Mountbatten Braille Writer and the Emprint Embossers from ViewPlus. The workshop will feature a hands-on opportunity to learn more about these tools. - "Getting Published: A Guide for Writers" Workshop provided poets and writers with information about the field of creative writing and steps that poets and writers can take to get their work published. Discussions topics included tips for improving writing skills, steps for getting published, outlets for publication, and the deceptive practices of some publishing houses. The presentation built upon personal experiences of the speaker and attendees had the opportunity to participate in several creative writing exercises. The workshop presented by James Risk, a member of the West Virginia Poetry Society and published poet, took place on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the Center for Excellence in Disabilities in Morgantown.
- CED welcomes new Parent Network Specialist Phyllis Gray. Phyllis, who is from Oak Hill, is working at the Princeton DHHR office and will serve counties in the southern part of the state.
