  • Barbara Blumish and Jamie Hayhurst-Marshall presented at the “Early Childhood: A Time to Soar, Celebrating Connections 2008” conference in Charleston, West Virginia. Barbara presented a workshop titled “Early Intervention for Positive Behavior Support” on February 21, 2008 and Jamie presented a workshop titled “Assistive Technology for Youngsters-Exploring the Basics and Beyond” on February 22, 2008.

  • Lori Risk, Melina Danko and Scott Davis presented information about disability awareness, person first language and including individuals with disabilities into volunteer programs at the Division of Rehabilitation Services in Institute, West Virginia on February 27, 2008. The training was replicated at the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol training facility for emergency preparedness and disaster organizations on March 17, 2008 in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.

  • Milisa Cutlip, an undergraduate psychology student, gave a presentation on the research she been conducting for the Fine Arts Program on March 24, 2008 at the CED in Morgantown.

  • The CED welcomes Tammy Hare, Rural Outreach Coordinator. Tammy, who has a farm background, will coordinate West Virginia AgrAbility, Green Thumbs Healthy Joints and Taking Charge of Your Health and Safety. To contact Tammy, call 293-4692 x 1185 or e-mail her at thare@hsc.wvu.edu.

  • The CED would like to thank Barbara Blumish for donating 42 children’s videos to the CED Resource Center.

  • In March, the Fair Housing Initiatives Program, was featured on “Access for All: Supports and Services in Your Community,” the Center’s TV show that is aired on the West Virginia Library Commission Network and throughout the state.

  • The Region VII Workforce Investment Board, Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College & the Disability Navigator Program are offering a five part series of trainings focused on the delivery of services to people with disabilities through the Workforce One-Stop System. The first training in the series, "One-Stop Systems; Legal Guidelines" was held January 10th, 17th and 24th at Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College.     • Jennifer Dewitt is a new Family Based Care Specialist who will cover the northern part of the state. Jennifer’s previous work experience includes a background in vocational rehabilitation, case management and crisis counseling.     • Marian Fisher is a new part-time secretary for the Fine Arts program.     • Scott Davis is the new Traumatic Brain Injury Coordinator for the TBI program. Scott is a former LEND trainee and CED employee with the Traumatic Brain Injury program and has just moved back from South Carolina where he worked as a counselor in the private sector.     • Theresa Shaw is a new Parent Network Specialist (PNS) with the Parent Network Project.     • Brenda Garlow is a new Behavior Management and Crisis Specialist with Positive Behavior Support project.     • Jean Hardman is a new Autism Specialist in the Positive Behavior Support project.   • The following books have been added to the CED Resource Center:
    • "Raymond’s Room: Ending the Segregation of People with Disabilities" by Dale Dileo. Dale Dileo is the author or editor of seven books about community inclusion for people with disabilities. This book reflects the author’s journey through learning and applying best practice in a system that remains resistant to change.
    • "Online Instruction for Distance Education Delivery: Preparing Special Educators in and for Rural Areas" by Barbara Ludlow, Belva Collins and Ronda Menlove. This publication combines knowledge, strategies, and program descriptions that integrate online distance education delivery with special education personnel preparation.
    • "Technology for Communication and Cognitive Treatment: The Clinician’s Guide" by Joan Green, M.A. CCC-SLP. This book is a resource for busy professionals in the education, rehabilitation and wellness who want to learn to use technology to improve service delivery, outcomes, productivity, revenue, job satisfaction and the quality of care in a wide range of work settings.
